It’s incredible how many folks deny the remarkable wonders of the Lord. It’s even more astounding that those who have seen God’s work in their lives first hand can allow themselves to forget the great things He’s done for them.
It’s effortless for the undisciplined mind to slip gradually back into a state of unrepentance, allowing the sin of the flesh to overtake the joy and peace of the Lord.
How many Christians have “backslidden?” I remember hearing that term many times in my youth from folks who would call themselves Christians. At a specific time in their lives, those folks turned away from Christ and the self-control that He encourages.
People who backslide in their faith with Christ carry on their life, disregarding what they already know to be righteous. They are more foolish than those who don’t know Christ.
That’s why it’s paramount that we all practice the art of self-discipline. We all have ups and downs in life. We all encounter moments in life that encourage us to walk away from what we know is true. We’re human with the weakness of the flesh to contend with every day.
When we praise the Lord every day and recognize and remember all of the great things He has done, we’ll be less prone to be one of the “backslidden” in the Lord’s flock. He is the One we praise and, in doing so, keeps us on the upright and narrow path giving glory to His name in everything we do and say.
Deuteronomy 10:21 He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes. (NIV)
