Hi Family,
Today we are going to talk about the power of the tongue. That’s right…we went there. This is a difficult topic to digest sometimes because, as human beings, the tongue is the main tool that we use to express any sentiment and/ or thought, whether big or small. I come to tell you today that we all (yes, we)need to be more mindful about the words that come out of our mouths. With that in mind, let’s dive into the Bible verse for this week. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” Hey, the Lord said it; not me.
Let’s start off with the small things. Once we understand their impact and apply them to our lives, this will fit all circumstances. Many of us wake up in the morning and say, “oh Lord, here we go again. I’m so tired”, when pondering upon their work week. Others encounter someone in a bad mood at work, at home, or at church and turn to another person to say, “Gosh, he/she is so complicated and annoying. What’s wrong with him/her?”. Some look in the mirror and say, “Oh my gosh, I look hideous!”
I am sure that seeing these words written down provokes you to reflect on your words at a deeper level and allow you to meditate on the Bible verse in a new way. Basically, God is telling us that we have the power to shift our words from negativity to positivity. From flesh to spirit. From death to life.
I challenge you to choose life! Wake up in the morning and express gratitude to God for another day filled with His mercies and grace. Choose to pray for someone who you see may not be having the best day. Choose to look in the mirror and express how beautiful you are. The power is in the tongue. Use it for the good!
